Juvéderm vs Restylane Minimize

Juvéderm vs Restylane

  1. Smooth consistency gel (Juvéderm) vs. particulate or granular gel (Restylane)
  2. 35% more cross linked hyaluronic acid /ml (Juvéderm)

Advantages (corresponding to points above)

  1. Softer, more malleable and easier to inject - better flow characteristics - Possibly less pain and bruising.
  2. Possibly longer lasting because the degree of cross-linking is most associated with persistence of effect.

Persistence and patient satisfaction with Juvederm are being evaluated in the current Juvéderm Experience Trial study.

Juvéderm Clinical Studies

The FDA's approval of Juvéderm was based on data from a double-blind, randomized and controlled clinical trial. A total of 439 subjects were followed for six months after injection with one of three Juvéderm formulations (Juvederm 24HV, Juvederm 30HV, Juvederm 30) in one nasolabial fold, and Zyplast (bovine-based collagen) in the other.

Juvéderm was found to provide a more persistent wrinkle correction than Zyplast over the 6-month course of the study, with up to 90% of subjects maintaining at least a 1-grade improvement in nasolabial fold correction with Juvéderm compared to 36-45% with Zyplast. At the conclusion of the study, up to 88% of subjects expressed a preference for Juvéderm while only 5-12% expressed a preference for Zyplast. In addition, among non-Caucasian patients (all Fitzpatrick Skin Types), Juvéderm was found safe and effective and demonstrated no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring.

Next Generation Benefits Of Juvéderm

Hyaluronic acid is a substance which is naturally present in the dermis and maintains the hydration of tissues, becoming absorbed slowly over time. Injection of Juvéderm is a replacement source of this hyaluronic acid, which disappears gradually with age.

Juvéderm offers the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid.

Based on clinical studies and years of use in Europe, the effects of Juvéderm usually last 6 months or longer. This effect varies depending on the types of skin, areas, amounts injected and the injection technique. In some cases, the effect may last for up to one year.

Injectables are technique dependent. Dr. Weiss has been injecting soft tissue fillers since they were first introduced in 1986.
